Vedic Astrology: Planetary Strengths or Graha Bala

             Before analyzing the horoscope we should be able to know the strength of every planet. Vedic astrology being the systematic science has a mathematical method of calculating the strength of planets. These strengths help to evaluate the magnitude of the event. For instance, if a combination indicating that the person will be a doctor is present in two similar horoscopes, their reputation as a doctor will be completely different depending upon the relative strength of the planets. Vedic Astrology: Calculation of Ascendant or Lagna

Ascendant is the point of ecliptic on the eastern horizon at a specific time. Let us calculate the ascendant step by step To calculate this point tropical longitude of sun is required. Step 1: Calculate the tropical longitudes of the sun. Tropical longitude of sun = Nirayana longitudes + Ayanamsha. Step 2: Calculate the difference between the birth time (LMT) and a sunrise on a given day. This is called as Ishta kala . Step 3: Consider the sign in which the sun is in and the degrees he has traversed in that sign. ( Note: Consider the tropical longitudes of the Sun. ) Step 4: Calculate by direct proportion the expired portion of the sign the sun is in at the time of sunrise. Step 5: Calculate the unexpired portion by deducting the expired portion of the sign as calculated in the fourth step. Step 6: The duration as calculated in the 5 th   step should be deducted from the Ista Kala . If duration of the sign is greater than Ista Kala then ignore

             In today’s post, we are continuing the example given for calculation of ascendant in the  previous post . The horoscope depends on the two important points. They are the Ascendant and the Meridian Cusp It is known as Madhya Lagna or the cusp of the tenth house. Bhaskaracharya the great astronomer of India has defined it as the point where the meridian of the place cuts the ecliptic. Formula for the calculation of the tenth house 1. If the birth is after sunrise but before the mid-day then the formula is [1/2*Duration of the day] - Istakala 2. If the birth is after midnight but before sunrise then the formula is [1/2*Duration of the day] + [Sunrise - Birth time] 3. If the birth is after midday but before sunset then the formula is Istakala - [1/2*Duration of the day] 4. As a student of Vedhic astrology, one of the challenges that I faced was studying classical texts. We have so many texts and every text has some exceptional content. Most of the translators did not get a chance to validate the principles mentioned in the texts and due to this, the accuracy of the translation was reduced. One example is Moola Rashi and Dhathu Rashi. This is well explained in my book ‘Untold Vedhic Astrology’. Due to all the reasons mentioned above, I started noting my own observations while studying various classical texts.
