Recently someone asked me about the scientific meaning of Shree Saraswathi Yanthram and I thought many of you may have same question. Many Hindus have been drawing and praying Shree Saraswathi Yanthram or Shree Saraswathi sign since childhood. Many of you may know that Shree Saraswathi is a goddess of 14 Vidya or sources of knowledge and 64 Kala or art forms. Therefore, she is also a goddess of creation and creativity. On another note Shakthi is represented by a triangle in Vedic culture. The real meaning of word Shakthi is skill. You may wonder why a skill is represented by a triangle. As a student of Vedhic astrology, one of the challenges that I faced was studying classical texts. We have so many texts and every text has some exceptional content. Most of the translators did not get a chance to validate the principles mentioned in the texts and due to this, the accuracy of the translation was reduced. One example is Moola Rashi and Dhathu Rashi. This is well explained in my book ‘Untold Vedhic Astrology’. Due to all the reasons mentioned above, I started noting my own observations while studying various classical texts. In one of my posts ( How cow is our mother can bull be our father ), I explained why cow is called ‘Gomatha’ or mother cow in Indian culture. Along with calling mother (as we have milk of the cow), it is also important to understand why only Indian cow milk and not any other cow milk. Recently I came across an idea of A1 and A2 type of milk. Milk generally has three parts: Fats, Whey and milk solids. The milk solid part is composed of many different proteins, which have their own names, lactose, and other sugars. We are interested in protein part of the solid. One of these proteins is called casein, of which there are many different types, but the one casein we are interested is the predominant protein called beta- casein . In today’s post, we are continuing the example given for calculation of ascendant in the previous post . The horoscope depends on the two important points. They are the Ascendant and the Meridian Cusp It is known as Madhya Lagna or the cusp of the tenth house. Before analyzing the horoscope we should be able to know the strength of every planet. Vedic astrology being the systematic science has a mathematical method of calculating the strength of planets. These strengths help to evaluate the magnitude of the event. For instance, if a combination indicating that the person will be a doctor is present in two similar horoscopes, their reputation as a doctor will be completely different depending upon the relative strength of the planets. In the coming posts we will learn to mathematically evaluate the relative strength of planets. These strengths are called as ' Shadbala ' or six fold strength. Saptavargaja Bala means the strength of the seven-fold division. For calculating the Saptavargaja bala 1. The relative strength of a planet either being in the sign of the friend or enemy is first ascertained. Moreover the temporary friendship or enmity is also ascertained. The combination of temporary and permanent relationship gives us more comprehensive combined relationship. This relationship is applied to sapatvargas and then the strength is ascertained. 2. Out of shodahsavargas Rasi, Hora, Drekkana, Saptamsa, Navamsa, Dwadashamsa and Trimsamsa together create saptavarga. Vedic Astrology: Calculation of Ascendant or Lagna

Ascendant is the point of ecliptic on the eastern horizon at a specific time. Let us calculate the ascendant step by step To calculate this point tropical longitude of sun is required. Step 1: Calculate the tropical longitudes of the sun. Tropical longitude of sun = Nirayana longitudes + Ayanamsha. Step 2: Calculate the difference between the birth time (LMT) and a sunrise on a given day. This is called as Ishta kala . Step 3: Consider the sign in which the sun is in and the degrees he has traversed in that sign. ( Note: Consider the tropical longitudes of the Sun. ) Step 4: Calculate by direct proportion the expired portion of the sign the sun is in at the time of sunrise. Step 5: Calculate the unexpired portion by deducting the expired portion of the sign as calculated in the fourth step. Step 6: The duration as calculated in the 5 th step should be deducted from the Ista Kala . If duration of the sign is greater than Ista Kala then ignore

Vedic Astrology: How to calculate Sunrise and Sunset

In this post we are going to cover the calculation of sunrise and sunset. Sunrise takes place when the sun appears on the eastern horizon. The time for sunrise varies according to the location. For instance, the time for sunrise at a place located at 15 deg. North and 90 deg. East will be different from a place located at 45 deg. north and 90 deg. East. The formula for sunrise is: 1. tan (sun's declination) * tan( latitudes of place ) let us call this as X 2. Now find the sin inverse of X. The product is in degrees minutes. If the sun is in Uttarayana and the location is in northern hemisphere then. The product calculated above should be added in 90 deg. If however the birth is in Dakshinayana and the location is in northern hemisphere then the above product should be deducted from 90. The reverse holds true when the birth is in southern hemisphere.
